Winthrop Basketball

Fall is here, are you ready for some . . . . basketball?

For other schools around the state, Fall is a sign of football, but when you have the best basketball team in the state it's difficult not to completely dedicate your semester to the waiting game.

This year is going to be great. New faces, new staff and new teams on the schedule.

Let's talk about the schedule. Wow, we are bringing an ESPN bracketbuster to Rock Hill, giving us some more national coverage. It's so fun telling people from out of state where I go to school, and they always seem to know or have heard of it. The NCAA tournament always comes up in the conversation.

We are also headed to the Orange Bowl Classic in Florida where we beat the Miami Hurricanes last year. They were ranked 19th in the nation at the time and to see us sjust go down there and upset them was an amazing feeling. I am hoping that we can do that to Florida this year. Yes, the same Florida Gators that have been an SEC force the past few years.

Also, the men will head to Columbia to take on the Gamecocks for the first time in three years, then to College of Charleston for the first time in something like 18 years.

I can't wait, it's really going to be an interesting year.
